Wordless Wednesday – Summer Projects

Each summer I usually tackle at least one project around the house. So far, we have a rock garden. No more weeds. I took the hint when the landscapers weed whacked our flower bed, got rid of the rest of the weeds, laid landscape fabric, then put rocks on top. No more weeds, low maintenance, and I think it’ll look pretty cool when we decorate for Halloween in the Fall.

I stopped by TJMaxx to see if they had a wind chime I liked for the other side of the hook, and I found these patio cushions. I’ve been looking all Spring and Summer, since the Summer merchandise was put out, for new cushions that didn’t cost almost as much as a new patio set. I was seriously ready to Craigslist this set and just get a new one.

About Amanda

Amanda Griffiths sometimes feels as though she's running a zoo instead of a home. With two active autistic boys, they often make the noise of six kids. Pepper in some Army life and cyber schooling for spice, and it's organized chaos at best. When visiting, please don't feed the animals. They have food allergies.

  7. I love the rock garden. I keep telling my husband that we need to do that.

  8. Wow, love it! That’s what I need, a rock garden, something very low maintenance I end up killing everything I plant.

    • That’s exactly why I did the rock garden. I can’t grow plants, and I hate weeding. Plus this year, it’s been really hot and dry. I never remember to water plants when we haven’t had enough rain.

  9. So smart to have a rock garden. We only have one small bed, but I get tired of pulling weeds out of it.

  11. You’re right about being able to decorate for fall/halloween, winter/christmas, it’s a clean slate! We have red lava rocks in our front bed and need to fill in the side bed with them as well.

  16. It looks nice & tidy!(unlike my yard) when we lived more in the city ( a small town) I had a more manageable garden area like that. but never put rocks over it. Now I have weeds everywhere.. and with a 800 acre dairy farm behind me & surrounded by woods it doesn’t make sense to try any chemical or natural ways of weeding… I just pull the ones I can easily get out of the “wild’ beds I have. If you wanted a pot of something to add color or even something like tomatoes, you could put them in a pot & semi-submerse it in the ground. no weeds except for flying seeds, so easy to maintain… and when done pull out the pot! you can also make easy self watering things, look on the net.. or get those kids to water ;)

  21. I love the rock garden – and I can totally see it decorated for every holiday, not just Halloween.
I hope you find some new cushions for your set soon. I know what a pain that can be, I tried to find one for my chaise lounge… UGH!! I ended up buying a cover that was on sale from a catalogue and it faded – darn.
