This was the year I sucked it up and asked at the make up counter how to put on my make up instead of muddling through. It wasn’t really something my mother spent time with me doing. My technique had been picked up from various friends along the way. This is the year I found ULTA Beauty. My absolute favorite products are Benefit Cosmetics. I LOVE LOVE LOVE the Confessions of a Concealaholic Kit. Not only did it give me products that blend with my skin, but it gave me a booklet to tell me how to use each product. Perfect for someone like me who is make up challenged. The concealer products also look good under the Bare Escentuals line of mineral make up. I am really loving the minerals vs. liquid foundation. I find the mineral make up MUCH easier to blend and match my skin tone from season to season.
For eyes, I’ve decided that I like the L’Oreal Double Extend products. My biggest issue, is that I learned that my eyes were itching after awhile because you need to change your mascara every three months. Sometimes I forget until my eyes start itching again. Don’t forget to change your mascara! I was also having issues losing my eyelashes, so I tried L’Oreal’s lash boosting technology products. They did help, but they were only masking an underlying thyroid issue. Since I started thyroid meds, my eyelashes are staying put. If you have an issue with your lashes falling out, I suggest checking with your doctor before using beauty products to mask the problem.
Of course any kind of make up doesn’t look good without moisturized skin. The Jason Natural Products Red Elements Hydrating Night Creme is the only night creme I’ve found that doesn’t feel greasy on my face.Usually since night cremes are a heavier formula, this is an issue for me. I’ve bought the entire Jason Red Elements line to try (They say no petro or parabens, Lora). I do like the cleansers and daily moisturizer as well. My issue is with the thyroid issues I was having, I can’t tell if my skin issues are related to that or the products I’m using. I need to give the face products some more time before I’ll know for sure, but I do like how they’ve worked with my combination skin so far the best our of anything else I’ve tried.
This was also the year I got a good hair straightener and blow dryer. For the straightener, I got a CHI, as recommended by my stylist and everyone else I talked to who uses a hair straightener. It works fantastically on my confused wants to be curly but ends up more towards straight hair. I also replaced my 10 (or more I can’t remember) year old hair dryer. With my thick hair, it was taking FOR-EVER to dry my hair. I don’t use one a lot, but more so in the winter months because going out with wet hair makes me feel colder. I settled on the Conair Ion Shine hair dryer. I’ve only used it a couple times, but so far I’m really liking the shorter drying time, and my hair isn’t as frizzy when I’m done, even when I don’t use product before drying.
