Special Needs Blog Hop – Random

AutismLearningFelt
I’m so thankful to jillsmo for reminding me about the blog hop today. We’ve been so bogged down by doctor appointments the last few weeks, then the Thanksgiving holiday, all combined with the fact that by the time I do remember mid-morning, I’m too tired to form a coherent thought most days. But, here I am today!

This week’s theme is random thoughts. I’m the queen of random lately. Thanks to what I found out to be a thyroid that got a case of the “fuck its,” I’ve had some wildly ADD like symptoms. My husband has even noticed. When he finds me leaving one activity for another he says “Oh! There’s something shiny!” to remind me to go back and finish what I was doing first before starting something new.I’m not happy that this is now interfering with my daily life and writing of blog posts.

My kids are also totally random. Like Aaron yesterday says, “I want to go see the gorilla.” You what? The gorilla? What gorilla? WTF? (this is all going through my head). I never did figure out what the gorilla is.

The other day, he was saying “because,” but it sounded like “picas.” I was trying to figure out #1 what he was talking about, and #2 what he thought was small. After a good five minutes, we figured out he was saying “because” totally out of context.

I realized Max and Ruby remind me of my own kids. Zach is older and bossy like Ruby. Aaron is younger and likes to push Zach’s buttons like Max. I also realized that a lot of Max’s behaviors are a natural consequence of Ruby be a bossy bitch sometimes. I now think it’s funny when Max does stuff to purposely push her buttons. Probably only because it mimics our real life so much.

Aaron’s bug fear has gone to a whole new level. There was a butterfly on Spongebob yesterday morning. During his nap, he woke up in a terror because he was scared of a butterfly. Poor kid.

Aaron is loving Christmas and everyone who takes the time to decorate their houses. However, it has taken at least a week of the neighbors having lights up for Aaron to stop getting belligerent when he wakes up in the morning and the lights are off. He doesn’t seem to care that it’s day time and he wouldn’t see the lights any way.

Zach totally changed his Santa request on us this weekend. The boys saw Santa at Chocolate World, and Zach asked for a Nerf gun. I guess this is the year Santa disappoints. My husband said we should leave a note that says Zach will shoot his eye out. Too bad the sarcasm will be lost on the child.

How’s that for random? I know I’ve got more because that’s how my brain has been working lately, but I’ll spare you the rest and stop here.

About Amanda

Amanda Griffiths sometimes feels as though she's running a zoo instead of a home. With two active autistic boys, they often make the noise of six kids. Pepper in some Army life and cyber schooling for spice, and it's organized chaos at best. When visiting, please don't feed the animals. They have food allergies.

  1. You do random really well. I ended up making a topic for myself. Random was almost too much for me LOL.

Hoping things settle down for you (as much as they can!).

  3. I can totally relate to this!! Little Bird keeps saying something that sounds like “come sweaty” but we can’t figure it out. And I’m pretty sure she isn’t saying “come sweaty”, but if she is, we’re way more fucked that we thought.
