One of Those Weeks

It’s just been one of those weeks where nothing spectacular has happened. Just lots of the usual life and parenting stuff.

-The boys seemed to have regressed behaviorally. I blame that full moon. It’s not been fun.

-At the same time, our youngest has finally caught on to using the potty. Yay! It’s only going to cost us a small fortune in Squinkies , but if in the end we’re done with pullups – YAY!

-The Fridays where both boys are in school were supposed to be my time. It’s turning into my time to run errands. I’m on a mission to reclaim my Friday mornings, even if I only sit and play Zuma Blitz for an hour (that game taunts me).

-Aaron’s paperwork was faxed to ECHO! This means we are in the final stages to getting ABA therapy for him. I can then also see about getting respite care for both boys. Respite care. Those are two lovely, lovely words.

-Spring semester is, like every year, balls to the wall. This means my husband is working more than usual. This also means when he’s home, I’m often off running errands I need to get done since we’re still a once car household. Both of us are constantly either working, caring for kids, or running errands. By commencement/commissioning, we’re going to collapse.

-Mother Nature and Punxatawney Phil can suck it. I’ve had half a migraine for several days, but I’m trying to conserve my rescue meds for only when absolutely necessary. Same with my fibromyalgia. I was doing so well, but it’s time to go talk long term pain management. Aleve just isn’t cutting it anymore. Stupid weather. Where’s global warming when you need it?

-Congress felt the need to go on Spring break even though we STILL don’t have a budget for this fiscal year that started last October. I’m looking now to see who’s up for re-election in 2012. This is ridiculous. I think they need a panel of moms who routinely do household budgets, clip coupons, etc. to do our government budget.

-It’s almost IEP time. I need to start preparing myself for planning for a 5th grader. FIFTH GRADE! Where did the time go? I feel old now. I still remember being in 5th grade.

-I found out that we can get Aaron more speech and OT through our insurance if the doctor will write a letter stating that what the school district is currently providing is not enough. I really hope she writes that letter, and services are granted by the Tricare gods that be.

-I went through our clothes this week. We donated six black garbage bags full. I got rid of four of our moving boxes. It’s amazing how much the kids have grown in the short time since we moved. Aaron has gone from a size 2T to a 6 in 2 1/2 years! If he has any skills, they’re going to be recruiting him for basketball as soon as he’s old enough to play. Zach has done a good bit of growing too. He went from a size 6/7 to a 10/12. No more only growing 1-2″ a year. It does my heart good to see the kids thrive.

I think I’ve bored you enough for one day. How was your week?

About Amanda

Amanda Griffiths sometimes feels as though she's running a zoo instead of a home. With two active autistic boys, they often make the noise of six kids. Pepper in some Army life and cyber schooling for spice, and it's organized chaos at best. When visiting, please don't feed the animals. They have food allergies.

  1. I like your panel of mums idea :-) .

Today is my very first blog-o-versary so I’ve been busy preparing stuff for that all week. But I have the other half of your migraine here so I’m not sure how much celebrating I’ll actually do.

On top of that I registered my ADHD son at his new high school, he starts in September;I went to the cinema to see the Kings Speech, well worth seeing and got back to the gym, finally. I ate sushi twice which normally never happens so it’s been quite an event-filled week!!

  2. You sound very busy. No wonder you’ve been ignoring me. :) HAHA Kidding! <3 But honestly, I've been doing nothing. Procrastinating work. That's about all I have the energy for.

YAY for potties and fifth grade!

    • Yes, I’ve been ignoring you and most people to get the house more organized. Things tend to get let go a little more as the weather gets nicer and we want to be outside, so I want everything to be extra super clean and organized before that happens. The warmer weather is right around the corner.

  3. YAYAYAYA for potty action! Seriously you’re busy busy, making me tired to read all you have going on – can’t imagine how you feel my friend!

    • The potty is a big thing. In just a week, I don’t want to jinx it, but we’re almost there. It’s amazing how smoothly it goes when the child is truly ready.

  4. Definitely NOT boring!
I love hearing how your family is doing. Sorry that you haven’t been feeling well, and I totally understand, the weather has been up & down here and I had a migraine earlier in the week that kept me in bed most of the morning.
I agree with you completely about this statement: “I think they need a panel of moms who routinely do household budgets, clip coupons, etc. to do our government budget.”
Hope you had a great weekend!

  5. Sounds like a busy week for you. I understand about the behavior regression. There must be something in the air lately, my oldest has been more than a handful.

  6. This week is pretty low key for us, just the usual PT/OT on Wednesday. Although, I DO have to do a lot of other things, like fighting with insurance companies.

    • I had to battle ins cos for two years Cheryl so I know your pain. I did get money in the end though and just received another check in the mail a month ago from a visit 3 years ago. Stay persistant and it should work out. I think they started paying me to get rid of me.

  7. I woke with a migraine today too. I have not had one in a while. Interestingly the weather has been up and down lately here too so maybe that is the cause.

I need to recapture me time too. My friend and I were alternating sitting so we each could have a day a week to ourselves but somehow we got off track. Its time to get those days back errand free.

Hope you become migraine free soon.
