A month ago when I posted about the budget talks, and how there could be a government shut down, I got a lot of shit. I was told not to worry about it. Everyone still got paid in 1995. It won’t happen. They’ll reach an agreement. Well guess what? The last two days, everyone else finally got on board, didn’t you?
It’s not so much about what bills we will and won’t be able to pay (as a collective group) if a shutdown occurs. It’s the fact that the politicians of our country have used the military as a political pawn. So many of them use their mouths to say “We support our troops and their families,” and then their actions tell a whole new story.
April is Month of the Military Child. What kind of message are you sending our children, Congress? I can tell you that you’re going to have a lot of jaded future voters if there is a shut down. Kids remember more than you think, and politicians like to sit in congressional seats as long as they can. They may still be running when our kids are voting. Think about that. I think as a whole, military kids are paying more attention to current events than most kids. They’re watching you Mr. Congressman.
Cadets commission in a month. Is this the example you want to show our brand new shiny 2LTs of how our government works, Mr. Congressman?
Elections come around again in about 18 mos in 2012. There is a lot of rhetoric from this whole fiasco I know that I won’t be forgetting any time soon. I hope those sitting in office now enjoy their time because when it’s time for re-election, it may be a whole new ball game. We the people can exercise our right to vote.
Im so sorry Amanda. I cant imagine what this must be like for you guys. I cant believe this shut down is happening when those cockroaches make so much money. I love where I live and I know that I could be residing in Somalia under a murderous government but this economic BS needs to end.

I feel so sorry for you Amanda & the rest of the military families.Seems like that is one of the first places they always cut. We hear more yelling about some of the funding for PBS & radio & Planned Parenthood(with only the abortion side being named). There has been lots of yelling at the TV for a couple weeks here. We are both on SSID and have not had any COL increase in over 2 years, but the big guys in Washington still get theirs and what ever perks. They say we all have to sacrifice, I do not see any of them sacrificing at all. They could start by taking a salary cut & no pay increases for a few years. So they may not be able to afford their 4th family vacation in the Bahamas… jezzers! they are so out of touch with reality. I know you have to deal with medical issues too. we have been seeing more cuts each year & now this year they are also deciding what drugs we should take! They stopped any co-pays for 2 meds that both of us have been on for over 15 years! because they decided that “seniors” should not take them… 1st we are not seniors, we are disabled & would gladly be able body & working than living in this hell. So what do you think, will they take the weekend off?? phhtt!

I’d like to know how military is considered ‘non essential’ . And I’d like to know if each of our local congressional and senatorial ‘leaders’ are planning on paying their military voters as well as all other non essentials grocery bills while they dine in fine style .

I have been tweeting about this message for a couple of weeks now. I think it is totally irresponsible for our elected officials to be so selfish as to not do their jobs and see to it that the budget is balanced and our fighting men and women are PAID.
