Today’s Military News Roundup is brought to you by governmental suck.
-The government STILL can’t get their act together, and with only 3 days left (including today) there is no debt deal. When asked by troops in Afghanistan about pay, Adm. Mullen couldn’t even answer the question if troops will still get paid or not. I have a feeling that as a nation, we’ll be saying “Thank you for your service,” to many congresspeople up for re-election come November 2012.
-There’s a Department of Defense panel that also seems to think it’s a good idea to make troop retirement into a 401K type program. Again, more government suckage. Unless they grandfather in soldiers on the downhill side to retirement, there will most likely be a huge backlash. I haven’t seen anyone happy to be used up and spit out by the government to be told their retirement will not be what they were told when they signed up.
-It’s not all bad news this week. Veterans with PTSD and the government reached a settlement. This is progress in the treatment of our soldiers who suffer from PTSD and the government has tried to ignore in the past. The government is slowly recognizing that the psychological wounds these wars have caused are in fact real, even if it’s by force of the courts.
- Don’t forget to show your support for H.R. 2288 Caring for Military Kids with Autism Act. It’s estimated that 1 in 88 military kids are on the autism spectrum. Due to PCSing and lack of resources, only about 10% of those kids are receiving the therapies they need.
