Aaron was diagnosed as being on the opposite end of the spectrum as Zach (Yes, I’m still having issues with saying “low functioning”). I’m starting to come out of the funk. We started OT (occupational therapy for the noobs) this past week. His therapist is fantastic! It’s a shame she’s only here for three months. I hope they have someone else to replace her after three months. By the way, do they not realize how important it is for autistic kids to have consistency and how much they don’t like change coughAaroncough? We’ll deal with the when the time comes. In the meantime, she’s given me a great gift.
I have something I can fix.
Aaron has low muscle tone. We need to work on his hand strength and his sensory needs.
I can work on that.
I need things I can fix when the crap hits the proverbial fan.
This helps me tremendously since I’m a “fixer.”
I have been working on making playdough because I found out the stuff I bought is actually too stiff for Aaron. Who knew? That’s why he asks for help a lot when he plays with it.
We got more beads to string and sort.
A couple new puzzles with the little red knobs, and I make him pick the pieces up by the knobs.
We already had sewing cards.
I had just gotten the Crayola dry erase activity desk to work on his writing.
We’re on our way.
The goal for the end of this year – Kindergarten (even if it is with lots of accommodations).

It’s really fun to push some poker chips into the playdough and have the kiddo dig it out.
Sorry you’re going through a lot but it sounds like you’re doing everything you can to make a difficult situation better. That’s awesome!
I am so glad to see you coming out of that funk. I know it must be really hard. I feel the same way about Jordan’s learning disability. He is supposed to be reading over 100 words per minute and he is at 17. I think you are going about it in an awesome way though, looking for things you can fix and going with those.

this is good to hear and it’s great you have something to focus on. Have you ever done the cornstarch ‘slime’ ?? That’s a fun one and Hannah loves doing it. It encourages squeezing and I often let Hannah use a plastic spoon or knife to manipulate it

Your going through so much Amanda. Its so good to see your spirits start to lift. I hope that when the therapists change that you like her as well. My friends son has gone through trama so I understand the whole importance in consistency but it still stinks to have so start with a new person again.
