Crayola Christmas Gifts – CLOSED

[ 43 ] November 23, 2009 | Amanda

One of the hot new toys for Christmas this year is the Crayola Glow Dome. I’ve seen it everywhere. All the stores have it in their sales flyers with the other “must have” toys of the season. We had a chance to try it out. I have to say, It’s pretty cool. There are two scenes that come with the glow dome – an under water scene and a space scene. We chose to trace the space scene onto the done and the center piece. Any favorite coloring book page or drawing would work if you sized it accordingly.

Drawing on the glow dome plastic was a bit difficult. I’m glad that I took on this project and not my kids, ages 8 and 3. It was hard to see with the markers where I had drawn or colored before. Being right handed, I also had to remember to draw the scene from left to right so that I didn’t smudge any of it with my hand. The pieces of the scene to cut out and draw on the outer dome were even more difficult. It required me to hold the piece of paper inside the dome while I traced the object on the outside. You have to keep holding the dome up to the light to see where you drew before and to make sure you don’t touch where you’ve previously drawn and smudge it.

I know I’m making this sound like a huge undertaking, but it really wasn’t. I’d say if you have a patient child around 10 and up, I think they would enjoy the glow dome. My boys are just not patient, and I’m pretty sure if I had let my 8yo try this there would have been a meltdown and I would’ve ended up doing it anyway.

I do really like that there are two compartments that house the markers inside the Glow Dome when you’re finished so they don’t get lost. With all the crayons and markers we have, they’d bound to be lost or ruined. The kids liked the different light and rotation settings. We all really enjoyed the end effect.

Crayola is currently hosting a Give the Gift of Creativity sweepstakes. You can enter to win Crayola products and a 7 night Caribbean cruise for a family of four. See details and rules on their sweepstakes page.

If you’d like to win a Crayola Glow Dome of your own, you can enter right here on this blog. All I ask is that you leave a comment stating which Crayola product off their gift guide you’d like for your family.

One entry per person. Open to US only. Giveaway ends midnight EST December 6, 2009. Winner will be announced December 7, 2009 on this blog. (A couple notes in case Crayola is looking for feedback. There is n o category for 3 year olds! My daughter is just three and one category goes to 36 months and one is 4+…. what happen to between 36 months and 4? ;) Also, that site is not intuitive at all that you have to click on the dots to see the products and is running horribly slow…)
