From the WTF Files

Are you a member of Sponsored Reviews? I am/was. I use the was because I can’t remember my user name or password, and when I’ve tried to e-mail for it, I got no response. There’s no place on the site I can find to retrieve such information. I’ve gotten very few offers in my e-mail. From what I can see, the ones I have gotten are pretty spammy. After about the third spammy offer, and not being able to log in, I just delete those e-mails as soon as I see them now.

However, nothing beats an offer a friend of mine got and forwarded to me so that I could see it with my own eyes. She got an offer for $25 to post about a church’s site (Sorry, no link to the cult site. I won’t give them traffic). That seems relatively benign, but like any good blogger, before she accepted the offer, she did her research. Turns out this church, is labeled as a cult if you do some digging. The site reads as if it were written by a politician. It’s hard to wrap your head around because some of the things posted there are so fascinatingly wrong. I definitely wouldn’t drink their brand of Kool-Aid.

If you’re going to write a sponsored post, make sure you check out the links of these “sponsors” you’re posting for. I know the money may sound good, but if I read your article, click one of those sponsored links, and it takes me to  a spammy site, I will question your integrity as a blogger.

LOL EVERYONE should research before doing a paid post. I just can’t believe that Sponsored Reviews doesn’t fact check the customers before sending the requests out to unsuspecting bloggers. For example, I know of one person who got an opp that was supposed to be for Crayola. Turns out it was for an online gambling site. I would say that is a big FAIL on their part, wouldn’t you?

I’ve gotten a few offers that looked too good to be true and when I did some research, that is exactly what they were. I never even click on a link in an email I receive, I do the research on my own first, I have had a virus wipe out my computer twice (even with security software) and I’m not taking that chance again.
It is the only right thing to do for yourself and for your readers. Excellent article Amanda!!
