Happy St. Patrick’s Day!
My son asked me what is St. Patrick’s Day? Does anyone really know? Sadly, I’m partially Irish and have no idea. My family has never done anything more than wear green and drink copious amounts of beer and various other types of alcohol on this day. Do you have a memorable St. Patrick’s Day? I do. I”m going to make my blog readers suffer through it too.
It was St. Patrick’s Day 2001. My former college roommate was visiting us, so we took her to the Inner Harbor and Fell’s Point in Baltimore, MD. Keep in mind throughout this story that I’m 6 months pregnant and very fat and uncomfortable. So, we get to the Inner Harbor and poke around some shops. I’m a big geek so I loved the Discovery Store. The DH tells me there’s antique stores in Fell’s Point. Well what are we waiting for? Let’s go. Do we get a water taxi? Nooooooooooo. There was a wait, and DH says “It’s only a couple blocks.” Couple of blocks my big fat ass. A couple of miles later, we’re in Fell’s Point. We stopped at a small coffee shop and had coffee and cocoa and I rested my swollen feet for awhile. Then I dragged them in and out of antique stores. We did get a water taxi back to the Inner Harbor. We put our names in for a table at The Cheesecake Factory because I’d never been there, and what pregnant woman doesn’t love a good piece of cheesecake? It was a 2 hour wait. I’ve never waited for a table that long in my life before then or since. No restaurant is THAT good on my opinion. So we poke around the shops in the same building as The Cheesecake Factory, stop at a bar and they have a drink, but I had soda. Then we go back down to the restaurant and it’s standing room only. Do you think any of the surly teens sitting gave the fat pregnant woman their seat? Hell no! Do you think their mothers made them get up and have some manners and respect like I make my 6yo? Hell no! Oh I was appalled (to say the least) and I was fat, tired, and hungry. I’m not the type of person you mess with when I’m tired and hungry. I can throw a tantrum to rival that of any 2 year old in those sorts of situations. So we got our table, ate, had our cheesecake, and went home. It was late when we got home. I don’t remember exact times, but I do know that the baby I was carrying will be 7 years old in June and my husband has yet to live down the walk from the Inner Harbor to Fell’s Point on that St. Patrick’s Day.

Don’t worry that you didn’t know alot about St. Patty’s Day. I’m still trying to figure out Kwanzaa!
Happy St Patrick’s Day to you as well. I am just getting out for an Irish coffee in honour of my Grsndma.
Great post.
Hope today can be memorable for better reasons.
You can read about our St Patricks Day on my blog.
Happy St Patrick’s Day from N Ireland.
Happy St. Paddy’s Day to you! Sorry you had such a rough day back then! At least you got cheesecake eventually though, right?
I blogged today about an antique platter I have now. I know nothing about antiques so I admire you.
I was pretty fuzzy on St Patrick’s Day too.
Happy Green Day to You!!! Love that story. . .wish I had one, but St. Paddy’s day is just not something we do here (except wear green).
I’m another one who doesn’t really know what St Patricks day is all about!
We used to get crazy on St. Pats days but it has been years. Last year a bunch of us went to the movie Wild Hogs and to the bar afterwards seeing it was a Sat. nite…what was fun was that there were a lot of other people out there that we knew. Fun.
oh don’t you hate those days that should be perfect, but end up being a PITA!? I guess that describes a lot of days during pregnancy!
And I was just commenting on my blog that St. Patrick’s day does seem to be all about the beer. What’s with that?
