I Found Some!

[ 3 ] February 14, 2009 | Amanda

Yesterday while I was grocery shopping, the heavens parted and angels sang. I found dye free fruit snacks for my son. I was in the organic food section looking for another product when I found Bunny Fruit Snacks. I got about 10 shades of excited when I read the label and there was no red dye in them since it turns my oldest into demon spawn.

Now don’t get me wrong. I still consider fruit snacks a treat. These ones still have cane sugar listed as the second ingredient. I have no illusions that because they’re organic, and the cane sugar that’s in them is organic, they’re healthy. Fruit snacks are also a rare treat in our house because of their stickiness. I’ve been told by many a dentist that they’d rather kids eat chocolate if they’re going to eat sweets than anything sticky. And let’s face it, despite the claims of being made with real fruit juice and having vitamin C in them, all fruit snacks are just glorified candy. Not to mention the $4.49 for 5 pouches price tag on this particular brand. The price alone would put them in the once in awhile category even if nothing else was a factor.

After trying the tropical fruit and berry patch flavors, we recommend the berry patch flavor. The tropical fruit ones leave a funny after taste.

We LOVE Annie’s brand. . . just knowing that it’s not High Fructose Corn Syrup helps. And they have a Mac and Cheese. . and Bunny Grams w/out milk. . . anyway, the list could go on. But yes. . . they are just glorified candy.
