Little League
This time of year is bittersweet living in this area. On one hand, we have the kids getting ready to go back to school (YAY!). On the other hand, the college kids are moving back into the towns, causing more traffic and longer lines in the few stores we have, and fewer parking spaces at the mall. But then there’s the main event – the Little League World Series. The teams come from all over the world. They’re made up of 11, 12, and 13year old boys who feel as if they’ve made it to the major leagues. A lot of the families travel with the teams as well, filling up our hotels and restaurants for hundreds of miles from the playing venue. It’s a really great thing to watch. Our boys aren‘t old enough to go and sit through a game or two yet, and honestly, I’m thankful to not have to deal with the traffic other than the increase we see here an hour to the south. But, we do watch the games on tv. I love watching the kids play rather than those players making millions a year. The emotions in the kids are so raw, so pure. They hold nothing back. So, if you have a chance, tear yourself away from the Olympics for a bit, flip to ESPN or the station in your area carrying the games, and catch a LLWS game. You won’t be sorry.

How exciting that must be. It would be nice, if your boys get excited about baseball some day, to be able to show them this aspect of the sport. Most of us only have professional or collegiate opportunities.
That must be fun to have in your town! Love Little League except when you get crazy parents that try to ruin things for these kids!
What an experience that would be as a participant. I was sad as baseball wrapped up last week for the same reasons…..end of summer. Now we prepare for hockey season.
I love watching the little league world series, but I also worry about the pressure put on these boys and the strain on their developing muscles. (My hubs has many problems from playing baseball and soccer as a growing boy.)
I live in a college town too (IU). There’s no way I go on that side on town during move-in week!
