*When my 2yo says “Choo Choo” in that insistent tone, I’m sure it means “Put in the Thomas DVD now, Woman.” No matter how sweet his little voice sounds.

*My 2yo has my ability to turn on and off his tantrums at will. Last night he was loudly protesting going to bed. When I handed him a tissue he stopped screaming and very sweetly said “Thank you.” This skill will serve him well as a parent. You don’t want to scream at your spouse after you’ve been yelling at the kids. I try not to place my anger on those it’s not directed towards.

*My 2yo loves black olives as much as I do. So much so he grabbed a can I bought for tacos, handed it to me, and insisted I open it for him to eat for breakfast one morning. They can’t be any worse than the Cinnamon Toast Crunch his brother was eating, right? I may have to resurrect the can of black olives in the Easter basket and Christmas stocking tradition that I had as a kid. At family functions, there was Amanda’s bowl, and the bowl for everyone else.

*My 7yo is a pro time waster. Even his little brother tells him to “chew” with a little hand motion at meals.

*My 7yo also says some of the best things for blog fodder, but then I don’t write them down and I forget what they are.

*The commissary is the devil. They put the Easter candy up front before the produce even, and it’s cheap. Like going to Family Dollar cheap, only you get the name brands. If I walk there and home, it cancels out the candy I buy, right?

*You know Easter is coming when the fillet o fish commercials for McD’s start showing up on TV every 5 minutes. Then you realize you can’t eat out on Fridays until after Easter because all your favorite restaurants will be running haddock specials. These will in turn draw all the people who observe Lent to the restaurants, and they’ll be crowded.

*Friday Lent fish specials tend to be regional. Here it’s haddock. Back home it was always perch.
