Stuff of Life

[ 2 ] March 12, 2010 | Amanda

Life here has been hectic and boring all at the same time. My days have mostly been filled with doing bio-hazard laundry from a child with digestive tract issues, and soothing belly aches. Let me tell you, there’s nothing like having to collect a stool sample from a diaper as you’re making your breakfast because the sample has to be “fresh.”

It’s also Spring break for the college kids, so that means my husband and I take care of tasks that needs done since his last break at Christmas time. I’ve done exciting things like go to the dentist. Here’s my PSA: women, get your annual pap done. So many things can be lurking that have no symptoms that a pap will detect. My family history dictates I go every year. I’m not taking any chances with something that can be prevented. Sure it sucks, but its’ 15 minutes of my time to help protect my health.

We’re still waiting on the school to test Zach to see what services they’re going to provide him. Then I need to get his IEP done and a copy to our doctor so we can get him enrolled in all the programs for our insurance and get his therapy started outside of school as well. I hate red tape.

We also had Aaron tested for food allergies this week. We highly suspect wheat, and the pediatrician even threw celiac disease out there. It’s going to be another 1-3 weeks before we hear anything on his blood allergy tests. If wheat comes back positive and he needs further testing, it’s goign to be about another 2 weeks for the referral to come through and then however long it takes fo the specialist to get him into their office. We’re still looking towards at least 2 more months of waiting.

And last but not least, we discovered it’s time to trade in the car. We’ve been a one car family since the end of last October, and that car now needs to go too. Thankfully we’ve managed to save a nice bit being a one car family. Our bank account really makes a good argument for staying with one car, but eventually with all the kids’ doctor appointments we will need two again. For now, we’ll stick with one as long as we can. I’d write about how good only having one car is for the environment and stuff too, but for us it’s really about the money we’re  saving right now with only one car. Hey, at least I’m honest.

And that’s my glamorous life in a nutshell. Who said being a stay at home mom was great?

*** I thought of one more tidbit. For all the rhetoric that “families come first” that military officials have been spewing, I find it highly ironic that it basically took an angry mob to get MYCAA reinstated. Even at that, it’s only partial. If you’d like some more info on this, Army Wife 101 has better info than I do as I wasn’t a member of this particular program. I’ve just followed the gov’t cutting people off then what seems like reluctantly reinstating the program partially.
