We’ve All Been Here
I’m officially in Crazytown. Population of 2 includes cranky sick toddler and mom with lack of sleep. As if strep and ear infections aren’t enough, now I think we may be battling chicken pox.
Of course yesterday was Sunday and the doctor’s office wasn’t open. I tried to call the doctor on call but I couldn’t even get the answering service. I couldn’t even get their line to ring. I had that mom feeling of there’s something wrong with my baby and I couldn’t shake it. I also hadn’t slept more than 90 minutes max at any one time in 2 nights. So for lack of an urgent care facility, I did the crazy mom thing and took the baby to the ER. The ER doc couldn’t confrim or deny that it was in fact chicken pox. She also suggested stopping the amoxicillin for 24 hours to see if anythign clears up. So I left frustrated with a baby no better off than when we went in. I hate our health care system sometimes.
So here we are on day 3 of very little sleep. Last night we averaged an hour at a time. I’m calling the doctor’s office today becuase there’s obviosuly something wrong. I’m doing eveyrthing I know what to do in the event it is chicken pox. We’ve done oatmeal baths, calmine lotion, tylenol and motrin for the fever and sore throat, etc. This kid does not want to eat, I have to force him to drink, and did I mention we’re not sleeping?
I’ve decided I want this product or something similar: the itzbeen Baby Care Timer

This is the description from One Step Ahead: For sleep-deprived new parents, it’s hard remembering when you did what — but not with our clever time manager! Forget about journaling; with the press of a button, the itzbeen displays the time since baby’s last feeding, diaper change, nap, and more. You can even set audible reminders for yourself! With belt clip, illuminated display, clock, and nightlight, plus a bonus button for whatever else you need to track. Requires 3 “AAA” batteries (sold separately).
I’m so sleep deprived I’ve been using a notebook to write down what meds I give and at what time becuase I just can’t remember anythign right now. I think this little gadget would make it so much easier.

Hang in there…we are going through the strep thing with my dd…second time in 6 weeks!I hope you get some sleep!!!
You poor thing. I hope you get some sleep and some answers soon, Amanda. Cool gizmo too!
Poor thing, both you and your little one. I hope that things get a bit smoother and you get some answers soon. And some sleep too. Hang in there.
I hope that sympathy will help make this a wee bit better. What a mess you have going on!!!
omgosh, I hope you get a diagnosis soon! Although, would you do anything different if it was chicken pox? You know, I wish my youngest had gotten chicken pox when she was younger and just over it, but she had that vaccine (my oldest didn’t – I don’t think it was available when she was a baby). So, even though my youngest got the vaccine, I still worry that she’ll get them when she’s older and it’s so much worse then.
I hope the sickies go away soon and I hope you get some sleep!
hugs to you! i hope you get some relief soon! blog your diagnosis. love to know what it is!! poor things!
