What I Do When I Can’t Sleep
Next time I complain about sleeping like a baby and waking every three to four hours, smack me. Shake me and remind me that at least I was sleeping. Last night despite two allergy meds and Sudafed, the snot still ran. And I was WIDE AWAKE. Yes, I know Sudafed has that side effect, but it’s the only thing safe to take for illness with my prescriptions, or so I’ve been told by my pharmacist. So in my insomnia, this is what I do………..
-Blog hop on my phone and add favorite feeds so I’ve now built up a reading list for when I’m stuck places and need good reading material.
-Watch Bill Maher’s HBO special But I’m Not Wrong, and finally see the last 30 minutes. I think I saw the best parts before I fell asleep previously.
-Watch really lame movies on On Demand hoping to fall asleep. All I accomplished was watching really lame movies.
-Fall asleep for exactly an hour.
-Realize that Dr. Pepper with dinner probably wasn’t a good idea since the caffeine is probably only adding to the Sudafed effects.
-Wake up wide awake and watch Lewis Black special Black on Broadway figuring I’ve seen it so much I’ll fall asleep. Fall asleep for an hour and a half, and wake to screaming 3 year old child.
-Said screaming child is saying “I scared.” This is his ploy when he’s done sleeping and wants to get up. He doesn’t babble and talk all cute, he doesn’t sing, he doesn’t say good morning, and he doesn’t just get out of bed. No, this kid SCREAMS, “I scared!” and then when you go into his room, he says in a very calm voice, “I done now.” It doesn’t matter that it’s 5:30 or 6am and you’ve had less than three hours of sleep total. Sometimes said ploy is tried at 3am.
This is all so far. We’ll see what the rest of the day brings.

I can so relate. My daughter was sick, my 3 year old got it, my 18mos old got it (they are both boys) the 3 year old = big baby will not sleep when sick. Then they gave it to me so while the 18mos old still has it Mama has it and well sleep is just not happening. So when all sickness is over and I get about 4 hours of sleep a night again I think I will be happy & thankful too!

Oh that just sucks!! Dr. Pepper and Sudafed are definitely a letal combination when trying to sleep. Plus a stuffed nose is a really crappy thing to try and sleep with, too bad you can’t take Benadryl… does the trick for me every time!
