White Horse

[ 5 ] September 16, 2008 | Amanda

We were driving back from dinner and running a few errands yesterday evening when we passed a field with horses and sheep eating. My 7 year old knows what horses and sheep are, or at least I thought he did until this conversation.

Son: “Mom, what do you call a white horse?”
Me: “A white horse.”
Son: “No, those little white horses that were eating grass.”
Me: “Those were sheep, not horses. Don’t you remember what sheep look like from the zoo?”
Son: “Oh yeah. So what do you call a white horse.”
Me: “Well, there’s lots of different types of horses, and some of them are white, so it depends on what type of horse it is on what we call it. If it’s someone’s pet it might have a regular boy or girl name like Fred.”
Son: “Mooooooommmmmmmm” (I swear I could hear an eyeroll)

Too much fun! I can’t wait to have these sorts of conversations with my girl. I think we’ll have to master talking, first, though.
