You Know It’s a Great Day When……..

[ 4 ] December 17, 2008 | Amanda

I’m full of posts today. You know it’s a great day when you give Secret Service guys the “Die a thousand deaths you bastards” look that only a mother can give.

This is how our day started. First, last night we got freezing rain, hail, sleet, snow, the whole shebang. There was a layer of ice coating our trees, shrubs, and cars this morning. School was on a 2 hour delay. My 7yo used his extra 2 hours to drive everyone in the house absolutely batshit. By the time I put him on the bus at 10:15am I was ready for a drink with an umbrella in it. One of the other moms at the bus stop remarked how she was going to get the worst mom of the year award because she was out of patience. I told her I think it’s becauseChristmas is in a week. My son acts like a little asshole from November until New Year’s. Then I mentioned how I was ready for a drink. She said if she didn’t have a cold, she’d be ready for one too. Today was one of those days where I understand why some moms self-medicate and start taking meth and stuff.

Then, we were taking our nephew to his girlfriend’s house before he flies home to Germany for Christmas break. First stop, the post office. Getting around post was a nightmare – to say the least. As I’m walking into the post office, there are secret service guys everywhere. They looked at me like “Who the hell are YOU?” and that’s when I looked back at them like, “Eat shit and die.” I get in the post office, and the post master says, “If anything starts happening outside, I’m going to run out and take pictures, OK?” To which I replied, “Sure, but as far as I’m concerned, the President can suck it today.”

After we dropped off the nephew, enjoyed a nice lunch out, and ran some errands, we came home. Then I was reminded all over again was a goat screw post was. I e-mailed the garrison commander. DH asked me to be nice. I told him I’d try. My e-mail basically said they need to remember that not everyone who lives here attends the War College or works on post and I’d appreciate it if there would be some sort of notification put out about new traffic patterns for the day of their special events. That’s my biggest complaint about this post. If you’re not here as part of the War College program, you get left out. They seem to fail to remember there are permanent party people here as well. A little courtesy would go a long way.

I TOTALLY get the kids driving you nuts for two hours. ANY change in the schedule here and my oldest two make me wish I had gotten my tubes tied before I had any kids, lol. That is another reason they ride the bus and don’t go on parent drive. The extra hour and a half they would be here would be *@!!. Hang in there!

I am so out of patience in the mornings – I find those my roughest patches. Hurray for mimosas. :)

But I love how you got to take out your frustrations on secret service agents! Hilarious!

I went to the post office monday and it was so cliche. 2 employees, about 100 people in a line out the door and suddenly one of them goes-’Yup! Break time!’ and just WALKED OFF. I was in the airlines for 8 years and it didn’t matter when you had a break scheduled, if there was a line at the counter you helped out.

And now we get to spend 2 weeks with our crazy kids. But you know what, as crazy as they make me, I can’t wait to just be mommy to them and not focus on my class kiddos. I am blessed. At any rate, sorry you’ve had a rough day. Just remember all the blessing you have. And take some time for that drink with the umbrella!
